We write a lot about music, goth and electro bands but have you ever wondered who makes their great music videos? We introduce Kol Belov, the master of horror gothic flash animation. If you have never heard about him his website is worth visiting.
You are pretty well known in Eastern Europe. Can you introduce yourself for Belgian readers?
Hello , I am an animation artist from Russia, my name is Nikolaj Belov, but Kol Belov is kind of easier. I make strange animations, that look like music videos and strange music videos, that look like animation.
How come you are into flash animation?
I made my first cartoon in the year 2000 when I just got to know flash macromedia. It is the most accesible program for me.
You are well known as a person who has a lot of fantasies. What inspires you?
My inspiration comes from music, movies, dreams... basically everything.
Which kind of music do you listen to at home?
Old industrial, black metal and Russian folk music but... I am not that much into music.
What do you think about comics?
I got interested in comics when I first saw "Pif" at my friends' place. Now I mostly collect books with horror stories. I have a lot of favourite authors.
How about the festivals?
I have not really been searching for that. I have sent my movies where people asked me to send them. Now I have to do this things myself but I am too lazy.
Now you are working a lot for the Russian horror hip hop band 2nd SORT...
Yes I love them, there has been only one festival which was not afraid to show the music video I made.
What are your plans for the future?
For the future I plan to make a lot of evil cartoons.
