Italy is very productive on the darker side at the moment, though most of the bands are only known locally. That is not a reflection on their quality – quite the contrary...
“All my beliefs” by Zero A.D. is the fruit of many years of passion for synthesizer music.
When Andrea Tomasich and Diego Bardari met each other fifteen years ago, it seemed like they would be forever inspired by the likes of Ultravox and The Cure. The blessing (or was it a curse?) came when the duo discovered the future-pop beauty of bands like VNV Nation, Icon Of Coil or Covenant.
Having played at various Italian festivals and having had a track on “Italian Body Music Vol.2”, it was about time for that first album.
The result is an album that contains snippets of traditional synthpop (it’s not just coincidence that they opened for Melotron) and futurepop that makes you want to both dance and listen.
But Zero A.D. go way beyond being just copycats. You can definitely hear the love they share for these bands but also the inspiration to produce a danceable synthpop album that deserves a listen.
The outstanding track is absolutely “2099 AD” it just has to be heard by anyone into synthetic sounds.
