David Law, David Jornet and German Sanchez met each other accidentally in Paris in 2012, and so Libres Des Ames was born. On the EP Thick, they offer you a splendid mixture of both cold wave and post-punk.

The opening track Cracked Souls has a bass line that directly comes from a Joy Division song, complemented with a tight distorted guitar sound and minimal synths. There are Bauhaus influences as well, but also Tropic of Cancer.

Nightmare is pure post punk, monotonous drums, a tight bass and a repetitive guitar riff. Fans of The Soft Moon surely will adore this sound.

Manipules is pure cold wave, while Up And Down has some minimal elements, a song in which analogue synths and distorted guitars perform a silly dance. David's voice is accompanied by some electronic effects and the result sounds quite sultry and menacing.

In You Get Lost the electronic machines take the lead, although you can hear growling guitars in the background. The last song The End is a wrong title, because this EP rather feels like the beginning of a great future.

Recommended stuff for fans of The KVB, The Cure, The Soft Moon, Cold Cave, Bauhaus and even Nine Inch Nails. Des Ames Libres is a must. Pure class!

David Law, David Jornet en German Sanchez ontmoetten elkaar eerder toevallig in 2012 in Parijs, en zo werd Des Ames Libres geboren. Met de ep Thick trekken ze alle registers van de coldwave en postpunk open.

Het openingsnummer Cracked Souls heeft een baslijn die uit een Joy Division-song lijkt te zijn geplukt, samen met een strak overstuurde gitaar en minimal synths. Bauhaus lonkt om de hoek, maar Tropic of Cander evenzeer.

Nightmare is pure postpunk, monotone drums, strakke baslijnen, een herhalende gitaarriff die door het nummer kabbelt. Liefhebbers van The Soft Moon vinden in dit geluid zeker hun gading.

Manipules is pure coldwave, Up And Down houdt het midden tussen coldwave en minimal, een nummer waarin analoge synths en overstuurde gitaren in een zwoele dans verwikkeld zijn. Davids stem wordt ook nog eens door de elektromangel gehaald, die zwoel en dreigend klinkt.

In You Get Lost wordt tempo gemaakt en hebben de elektronische machines het voor het zeggen, hoewel de gitaren op de achtergrond dreigend grommen.

De laatste song is The End. Een naar mijn gevoel misleidende titel, want deze ep is net het begin van een geweldige toekomst voor deze band.

Voor fans van The KVB, The Cure, The Soft Moon, Cold Cave, Bauhaus en zélfs Nine Inch Nails is Des Ames Libres een must. Ze bekoren van de eerrste tot de laatste seconde. Klasse!
