Vertical Slump is a new post-punk quartet from London, with members of Omipalone, Shopping, Gloss Rejection and Circuit Breaker. On this debut EP, the guys make straight forward post punk rock with loud and fierce guitars, appealing percussion and intense vocals.
The EP contains four tracks.

Tether initially sounds very much like Joy Division and takes a broader and more melodic turn later on, although it is difficult to forget Ian Curtis when listening. But the track floats on a beautiful melody as well, and so we are willing to be forgiving. Chanteuse is more Sex Pistols, with a lot of noise, whining and noisy guitars, loud vocals of a naughty boys band and a heavy powered bass. Approved. In Sentinel rebellion and protest are raised as well, but the guitars sound much less dark and even fairly cheerful. Post punk therefore, although there is obviously space left for some controlled noise.

Alter still has a puff of Joy Division, but otherwise this is a solid and well-composed rock song, again with noisy, whining and intrusive guitars, sharp drumming and fiery vocals.

Look out for the men of Vertical Slump!

Vertical Slump is een nieuw post-punkkwartet uit Londen met leden van Omipalone, Shopping, Gloss Rejection en Circuit Breaker. Op deze debuut-ep leveren de heren recht toe recht aan postpunkrock met luid en heftig gitaarspel, aantrekkelijke percussie en intense vocalen. Op de ep staan 4 tracks.

Thether klinkt aanvankelijk heel erg als Joy Division en neemt vervolgens een melodieuzere en ruimere wending, hoewel het moeilijk is om Ian Curtis te vergeten tijdens het beluisteren. Maar Theter drijft vooral op een prachtige melodie, waardoor we bereid zijn één en andere door de vingers te zien. Chanteuse is meer Sex Pistols met nogal wat herrie, jengelende en noisy gitaren, luide vocalen van een stoute boysband en zwaar aangezet basgeluid. Goedgekeurd. Ook in Sentinel zijn opstandigheid en protest aan de orde, maar de gitaren klinken veel minder donker en zelfs redelijk opgewekt. Post-punk dus, zij het dat er uiteraard plaats over is voor wat beheerste herrie.

Door hekkensluiter Alter waait nog een zuchtje Joy Division, maar voor de rest is dit een stevige en goed gecomponeerde rocksong, opnieuw met luidruchtige, jengelende en opdringerige gitaren, fors drumwerk en vurige vocalen. Maar dat laatste is ze gegund, de mannen van Vertical Slump!
