AmbientKrautrock

[62/100]

Bureau B
02/06/2011, Didier BECU

Bureau B is a new label whose goal consists of giving famous Krautrock-releases a reissue they deserve as it doesn’t have to be explained that this classic material is as good as impossible to find these days and if you do, you better bring some money with!

As this genre got born in the 60’s, you can imagine how old most of these musicians are.

Despite their age, some of them are still involved in music and of course it’s all logic that these Krautrock legends found a home at Bureau B as well.

One of these legends is Hans-Joachim Roedelius who got famous by fronting Cluster with Dieter Moebius.

This 77 year-old musician still has a beating heart for music and so he teamed up with the much younger Onnen Bock to form Qluster, with a Q that is.

Not that Onnen is a newcomer as he’s already 30 years busy in the music scene and his latest involvement with Zeitkratzer belongs to the more known ones.

Music wise Qluster is a sort of atmospheric ambient thing in where experiment seems to be the ruling thing. You get seven instrumental pieces on here that have the needed respect for ambient meisters like Brian Eno, even if industrial avant-garde could also be a category for this.

Some will hate this, some will love.

The honest truth however is that there is much better material around in this genre from other musicians who can’t rely on legendary fame, but this of course is Herr Roedelius.
