When the Finnish lab technicians of Unzyme announced their new experiment to be released in January, I was very curious on how it would be!? And to anticipate my conclusion, I have to say it exceeds all my expectations!
I had the possibility to attend one of their gigs last summer in Helsinki when Unzyme was supporting Hocico during the concerts in Finland. As it was my birthday, I was lucky enough to get my own Unzyme lab white coat as a gift! Thanks again for this surprise!
Well, now I wanted to know what had happened meanwhile. The three members of Unzyme developed a lot, from a more or less ordinary underground band to a project with its own distinctive style and sound. They definitely made some very important steps towards becoming more professional and on creating their very specific sonority. I didn’t expect that, but I really appreciate this development!
It is not easy to find a category to put Unzyme in. I would say it i somewhere between Mesh and Depeche Mode, mixed with harder breakbeats, fine melodic elements and meaningful lyrics.
Joona, Ville and Mary show the world that there is more coming from Europe’s north-eastern parts than dark Metal sounds and Pop Music for our every-day charts. Honestly, I’m thankful for that. Finland is my “home” and there is more to the music scene than Lordi, HIM or Sunrise Avenue.
Override treats us with 10 strong danceable, soulful tracks, each with its own unique character and message.
While listening to the album, no boredom arose whatsoever. It is a real pleasure to sit back and relax. Auxiliary medicine against dark thoughts. I would even call it an “ear-candy” at first hearing! Something I don’t say that often.
I can highly recommend this album! Go ahead and check Unzyme’s Facebook page and also their homepage where you can find the links to listen to the songs via Spotify or SoundCloud.

Recently, they did a great remix for Erk Aicrag’s side project “Rabia Sorda”.

Joona told me that Unzyme is already busy again, working on a third album and finding a producer to make their work even more professional.
There is also a tour through Germany planned, but the dates and venues are still to be announced. I’m really keen on hearing more and on observing their onstage abilities once more. So this surely is not the end of Unzyme’s experiments in their virtual laboratories of sound! To be continued…
