Woodwork is the first solo album by the Swedisch experimental/electronic musician Andreas.Karperyd (former member of Omala). He has been an important figure in the Swedisch scene since the late 80s (On Target, Obconic, Hox). Most of the music on the new album has been recorded live and that gives it a warm and relaxed feel. The vinyl box is released on no more than 105 copies, but is available digitally. The album contains 8 tracks.

Nature Nature has repetitive and dreamy electro, softly zooming synth drones and warm synth drums with a sirene-like voice on top. It is melodious and relaxed with striking drums in the second half. Public Transport and Rejected & Rewarded are more experimental, with all kinds of whimsical synth sounds and sporadic bell-like and metallic drones, while Winter Tone floats on dark drum drones with short snatches of zooming, moaning and echoing electro. Low Light Condition is a similar track with dark synth sounds and striking electro drums, accompanied by clicks and cracks of all sorts.

More melodious sounds title track Woodwork, the longest and probably the finest track on this album, with softly rustling synths and electro drums, bell-like snatches and a panoply of buzzing drones: a warm, intimate and good sounding piece of music with a repetitive piano at the end and warm murmurous drones. The short Correlation & Dependence reminds me of Pink Floyd, with drawn out drones and the sound of distored and echoing guitars: ambient en atmospheric, while Villovagar gets a nice rhythm and a repetitive melody.

Andreas Karperyd makes tuneful electro that always sounds warm and at ease, sometimes from an experimental perspective, but it never gets noisy or cacophonous. A nice sounding and captivating album.

Hij is een belangrijke figuur in de Zweedse scene sinds de late jaren '80 (On Target, Obconic, Hox). Het merendeel van de muziek op het nieuwe album is live opgenomen en dat geeft het een warme en ontspannen sfeer. De vinyl box verschijnt op niet meer dan 105 kopieën, maar het album is ook digitaal beschikbaar. Het bevat 8 tracks.

Nature Nature heeft repetitief en dromerig elektro, zacht zoemende synthdrones en warme synthdrums met een sirene-achtige stem bovenop. Het is een melodieuze en ontspannen track met opvallende drums in de tweede helft. Public Transport en Rejected & Reward zijn meer experimenteel van karakter, met allerlei grillige synthgeluiden en sporadisch klokachtige en metaalachtige drones, terwijl Winter Tone dobbert op donkere drumdrones met korte flarden van zoemend, kreunend en echoënd elektro. Low Light Conditions is een vergelijkbare compositie met donkere synths en opvallende elektrodrums, begeleid door een veelheid van clicks en kraakjes.

Melodieuzer is het titelnummer Woodwork, de langste en waarschijnlijk de beste track op dit album, met zacht ruisende synths en electrodrums, klok-achtige flarden en een arsenaal van zoemende drones: een warm, intiem en goed klinkend muziekwerk met een repetitieve piano en warme murmelende drones op het einde. Het korte Correlation & Dependence doet me denken aan Pink Floyd, met uitgesponnen drones en het geluid van distorted gitaren: ambient en atmosferische, terwijl Villovagar een aardig ritme krijgt en een repetitieve melodie.

Andreas Karperyd maakt melodieuze elektro die altijd warm en rustig klinkt, soms vanuit een experimenteel oogpunt, maar het wordt nooit luidruchtige of kakofonisch. Een mooi klinkend en boeiend album.
