After more than 30 years, Enzo Kreft is still delivering at a high level in the electro scene. And he's just as critical as ever. Enzo Kreft pours his musical wrath over a wide range of topics: the environment, injustice, violence, threats... and now it’s about those who see themselves as a kind of Übermensch. The dictators who, at any cost, impose their will on others, declaiming their intentions with grand words and oppressing the masses in the process. *Dictator* loudly and clearly expresses where Enzo Kreft stands on this. It hits him hard. It makes him angry. Furious, even. And right now, Enzo Kreft is exactly the kind of artist who can channel that rage, wrapped in masterfully crafted synthwave with occasional touches of EBM, into an album.

You 'feel' it. With each listen, the anger seeps in a little deeper. Even though he's not the type to scream his rage like some other bands do. No, in his unique, characteristic way, he ladles it directly into your brain.

The album is served up in various styles. *Self-proclaimed Savior Of The Nation* leaves little doubt about its target. (...) *He's the self-proclaimed savior of the nation. He's striving for world domination. His ego's so big. He's pathetic and sick. He's ruling with cruel fascination.*

There's also a strong military undertone, the sound of those who secure their power through force, as heard in 'Propaganda Parade', which marches past with a rigid, military stride. Perfectly in step. The fear, or the sense that there *should* be more fear, is palpable in 'Citadel Of Silence', a classic synthwave track. The richness of Enzo Kreft's music lies in its diversity. He refuses to be trapped in a single box. *Chains Of Silence* is a coldwave track with a post-punk flair.

And then comes 'Penal Colony', stomping out the pain of being imprisoned. A fierce protest against the confinement and mistreatment of those who dare to raise a dissenting voice. They are stuffed away like scum into the most grim dungeons and cells imaginable, where people rot away, where all hope is smothered at the very first sign of a different opinion.

On 'Hey, Mr. Dictator', Enzo Kreft takes a more direct, even mocking tone. He cuts through the facade, seeing the empty promises for what they really are. He acknowledges that there are still critical minds out there, people who understand what these dictators are truly trying to do, and who can see through the propaganda.

Enzo Kreft has delivered yet another remarkable album. One long, critical, and indignant voice rings out. Musically diverse, thematically direct. Call it a concept album. Call it something different. Call it whatever you want. Just don't forget to get it for yourself.

Ook na meer dan 30 jaar draait Enzo Kreft nog steeds op hoog niveau mee in de electro-scène. En nog steeds even kritisch. Over tal van onderwerpen spuwt Enzo Kreft zijn muzikale gal. Over het milieu, onrecht, geweld, bedreigingen,.. en nu zijn het de onverlaten die zichzelf als een soort Übermensch zien. De dictators die ten koste van alles en iedereen hun zin doen, dat in grote woorden declameren en daarmee het volk onderdrukken. Dictator verklaart luid en duidelijk hoe Enzo Kreft er in staat. Dat het hem zwaar aangrijpt. Kwaad maakt. Razend zelfs. En laat net nu Enzo Kreft diegene zijn die dat, ondersteund met geweldige synth-wave met af en toe een vleugje EBM, op magistrale wijze op een album 'verpakt.

Je voélt gewoon mee. Na elke luisterbeurt weer voel je méér kwaadheid. Ook al is hij niet de man die het met boosheid uitschreeuwt zoals andere bands wel doen. Nee op zijn unieke karakteristieke wijze lepelt hij het in je brein.

Het wordt opgediend in diverse stijlen. Self-proclaimed Savior Of The Nation laat al weinig ruimte om te weten over wie dat gaat. (...) He's the self-proclaimed savior of the nation. He's striving for world domination. His ego's so big. He's pathetic and sick. He's ruling with cruel fascination.

Dat er ook een sterke militaire ondertoon is wie mee macht verzekert, horen we in Propaganda Parade die met militaire tred voorbij dendert. Strak in het gelid. De angst die er is of er meer zou mogen zijn is voelbaar in Citadel Of Silence. Een old-school synth-wave song. De rijkdom van Enzo Kreft's muziek zit in de verscheidenheid. Hij is (en wil niét) in één val gevangen worden. Chains Of Silence is een cold-wave song met postpunk-flair.

En stampvoetend de pijn van het opgesloten zijn krijgen we met Penal Colony. Een aanklacht tegen het opsluiten en mishandelen van zij die een dissidente stem durven laten horen. Ze worden als uitschot weggemoffeld in de meest lugubere kerkers en cellen denkbaar. Waar mensen wegrotten. Waar alle hoop omwille van een andere mening in de kiem wordt gesmoord.

In Hey, Mr. Dictator uit Enzo Kreft zicht rechtstreeks op een lachwekkende wijze. Hoe hij wél doorziet at het gebakken lucht is wat wordt verkocht. Dat de happy few het wél doorhebben wat de dictators proberen te doen. Dat er nog kritische geesten en stemmen zijn, die nuance brengen.

Enzo Kreft levert alwéér een geweldig album af. Eén lange kritische en verontwaardigde stem weerklinkt. Muzikaal divers, inhoudelijk duidelijk. Noem het een conceptplaat. Noem het anders dan anders. Noem het wat je wil. Noem het niet meer, schaf het aan.
