What do the Belgian bands Kenji Minogue, Vive La Fête, Absynthe Minded and Pink Room have in common?
At first glance, not much. Unless…

It all began in Ghent (Belgium) in 2013 as a studio project by songwriter Tom Van Dorpe (Chrome Yellow) and sound engineer Sergej Van Bouwel (Absynthe Minded). They pulled out all the stops and took their live performances to the next level, joined by guitarist David Van Glabeke (Kenji Minogue) and drummer David Van Belleghem (Delavega).

Over the years, they evolved into a gritty yet atmospheric rock band. Their style shifted in 2018 with the arrival of second keyboard player Maarten De Meyer (Vive La Fête) and drummer Jelle Lefebvre (Pink Room, Celestial Wolves). Guitars are tuned to sound like synths, and synths like guitars. Turn things around!

With ‘Moanster’, Stereoseat presents the first single and title track of their third album.

The song tells the story of life on the edge — constantly seeking out boundaries and slowly becoming alienated from your own self.
The line “I’m the man in the mirror, slipped through the cracks…” perfectly captures the song’s existential tension.

The accompanying music video is a collaboration between Tom Van Dorpe and artist Stijn De Pourcq. The artwork ‘Geest van opstand’ (‘Spirit of Revolt’) — made up of mummified alpacas and goats — adorns the album cover and is part of a larger artistic project in which the artwork transforms into a rotating carousel.

This rotating carousel, featured in the music video, reinforces the song’s theme: objects trapped in their own small, repetitive space.

The full album ‘Moanster’ will be released on Friday, February 6, followed by an official release show on Saturday, February 7 at The Crossover Music Pub in Ghent, with special guest An Evening With Knives (NL).

Het begon allemaal in Gent (België) in 2013, als een studioproject van songwriter Tom Van Dorpe (Chrome Yellow) en geluidstechnicus Sergej Van Bouwel (Absynthe Minded). Ze trokken alles uit de kast en tilden hun liveoptredens naar een hoger niveau, samen met gitarist David Van Glabeke (Kenji Minogue) en drummer David Van Belleghem (Delavega).

In de loop der jaren groeiden ze uit tot een schurende maar sfeervolle rockband. Hun stijl veranderde in 2018 met de komst van tweede toetsenist Maarten De Meyer (Vive La Fête) en drummer Jelle Lefebvre (Pink Room, Celestial Wolves). Gitaren klinken alsof het synths zijn en synths alsof het gitaren zijn. Turn things around!

Stereoseat presenteert met ‘Moanster’ de eerste single én titeltrack van hun derde album.

De song vertelt het verhaal van leven op de rand — het voortdurend opzoeken van grenzen en het langzaam vervreemden van je eigen ‘ik’.
De zin “I’m the man in the mirror, slipped through the cracks…” vat de existentiële spanning van het nummer treffend samen.

De bijhorende videoclip is een samenwerking tussen Tom Van Dorpe en kunstenaar Stijn De Pourcq. Het werk ‘Geest van opstand’ — bestaande uit gemummificeerde alpaca’s en geiten — siert de albumcover en maakt deel uit van een groter artistiek project waarin het kunstwerk transformeert tot een draaiende carrousel.

Deze ronddraaiende carrousel, verwerkt in de videoclip, versterkt het thema van de song: objecten gevangen in hun eigen kleine, herhalende ruimte.

Het volledige album ‘Moanster’ verschijnt op vrijdag 6 februari, gevolgd door een officiële releaseshow op zaterdag 7 februari in The Crossover Music Pub in Gent, met als special guest An Evening With Knives (NL).
