The apocalypse is here. Poterna is a project of Shilov, band leader of the Russian martial/dark folk band Order Of Victory. The idea behind this destructive album is that mankind has been given the opportunity to think, but it only use it to destroy the planet in the most effective way.

Four songs long, the listener is sucked into a black hole. And no, you don’t get a happy ending. This results in post-industrial sounds with moments of (un)human screams in the background (Unfathomable Internment and Nimbus Out Of Psychosomatic Disorder) that get under the listener’s skin.

Opener Condemned is a mixture of (almost) celestial voices with the hard, icy sounds of steel. The end of the world takes time, although the CD only has four tracks, the shortest one is almost 10 minutes, and the two longest tracks around 25 and 30 minutes.

The music is composed with sounds of factories (including steel) and excerpts from films. The result is a roadmap to the end of the world. Although we all are in that same boat, most people do not want to know. The same goes for the music. Suitable for a small audience, but there will be, oddly enough, many of them who are happy to listen to this.

De Apocalyps is er. Poterna is een project van Shilov, de bandleider van de Russische martial-/darkfolkband Order Of Victory. Het idee achter deze destructieve plaat is dat de mensheid de mogelijkheid tot denken gekregen heeft, maar die slechts gebruikt voor de meest effectieve manier om deze planeet te vernietigen.

Vier nummers lang wordt de luisteraar een zwartgat ingezogen. Een vrolijk einde wordt het dus in ieder geval niet. Dat wordt op een beklemmend wijze omgezet in post-industrialtonen waarbij vooral de momenten van (on)menselijk gekrijs op de achtergrond tijdens Unfathomable Interment en Nimbus Out Of Psychosomatic Disorder onder de huid van de luisteraar kruipen.

Opener Condemned is een mix van (bijna) hemelse stemmen met de harde, ijzige geluiden van staal. Het einde van de wereld neemt de tijd, want hoewel de plaat maar vier nummers heeft, duurt de kortste track bijna tien minuten, de tussenvariant iets meer dan vijftien minuten en de twee langste tracks om 25 en 30 minuten.

De muziek is samengesteld met geluiden uit (onder andere staal)fabrieken en stukjes uit films. Het resultaat is de routemap naar het einde van de wereld. Hoewel we allemaal in dat bootje zitten, zullen de meeste mensen dit niet (willen) weten. Datzelfde geldt voor deze muziek. Geschikt voor een klein publiek, maar dat zal er vreemd genoeg met alle plezier naar luisteren.
