ALISE JOSTE

Alise Joste is a young Latvian artist and this is her first recording. She has a lovely angelic voice, so sweet and very moving. The acoustic music is enchanting. This cd contains twelve pearls of a rare quality. It's the ideal soundtrack for a cold winter, listening to it whilst sitting close to the heating or under a comfy blanket. A dinner by candle light could be good too (if you don't listen too close to the lyrics, which are sometimes really dark and strangely depressing). It's very relaxing music and makes you dream about nice things (again: if you forget the lyrics). However 'Sailor's Daughter' sounds very sweet, the lyrics ain't, it's even pretty dark. My favourite songs are 'Angina', ill - omened' (a nearly Heather Nova moment), 'A Thousand Questions' & 'Street Lights' (love it when she sings: I love the moment when she sings 'just the moment before they turn on the street lights'). I hope we hear more of this kind quality music, anyway: it's a great discovery coming from I love you records!
