DaGeist is sexy! DaGeist is hot! DaGeist kicks ass!.. DaGeist played a daily roofconcert at W-Fest above the main entrance. Also at WGT 2018 they convinced those who had never heard of them yet.The train rumbles on, unstoppable! How is this possible? Because these guys are affable people, make great music and enjoy every second of what they do! Davide Schiavoni and Frédéric Strzelczyk have been making music together since 2008, but the real breakthrough did not come until 2015 when they released their successful album '40'. It resulted in many concerts, where the duo could unleash their devils live on an always enthusiastic and meanwhile loyal crowd. In Belgium they played on various stages, where they gladly returned and will return again. But they also climbed the stages in the rest of Europe with conviction. Their greatest strengths? They are and remain their authentic self and really stand among their audience. Add to this their fairly accessible but nice hipwaving inciting cold-wave / dark-wave and the picture is complete.

Their second long-player ‘Sexy’ is as the title says. A successor that adheres to the concept they stand for: electro, some samples and dark synth lines combined with the sharp bass lines of Frédéric. Spars guitars looming once in a while, and the characteristic voice of Davide, yet a man with a good voice. Something that is not so obvious with many bands in this genre.

‘Sexy’ counts twelve songs and they are diverse in terms of styles… From cold-wave gems such as ‘Just Like You’ to more poppy sounding songs such as ‘I Am Alone’. And because of the dark edge that they breath, it remains irresistible wave music.

‘Don't Close Your Eyes’ floats on an extremely cool bass line that meanders its way through the drums. Cold-wave of the upper kind also with ‘Kiss or Kill’, which, supported by the playful synths, carries an infectious eighties feel. And what about a gem like ‘Ciel De Cendres’, where enchanting guitar work takes a more prominent place and takes the song to a higher level. My index finger tends to incline unconsciously towards the repeat button on my remote control.

But they also dive into the deepest catacombs in search of a ‘Vampire’. A song where Davide leads his typical voice into beautiful highs. I guess I became fan of his voice and in this song he shows once more what he can do with it, simply great!

We also notice on ‘Sexy’ the venom can be in the tail … Roberto starts with psychedelic soundscapes, a singing girl, violins sounding from afar, a heartbeat that accelerates and unfolds in a tribal-like melody, only to change slowly from caterpillar to butterfly and into a great electro song. Flanked by its very deep bass drum, retro synths … extremely danceable!

With ‘Sexy,’ DaGeist became a band we can't possibly ignore. They confirm once more what they already achieved with their previous album ’40’. Those who have already seen them in action on stage also know DaGeist live sounds even more convincing and stands behind every word and sound they produce. This is a kick-ass album: honest and convincing from start to finish!

DaGeist is sexy. DaGeist is hot… DaGeist pakt zalen in... DaGeist speelt elke dag op W-Fest boven de inkom en rond de inkom. Ze overtuigen op WGT 2018 diegenen die hen nog niet kenden. De trein dendert door, onverstoonbaar. Hoe dat komt? Omdat ze minzame mensen zijn, zalige muziek maken en zelf van elke seconde genieten van datgene wat ze doen! Davide Schiavoni en Frédéric Strzelczyk musiceren al samen sinds 2008, maar een echte doorbraak kwam er pas in 2015 met hun album ‘40’ dat hoge toppen scheerde. Het resulteerde in vele optredens, waar het duo live zijn duivels konden loslaten op een vrijwel steeds enthousiaste en intussen trouwe schare fans. In ons Belgenland stonden ze op diverse podia, waar ze graag terugkeerden en nog zullen terugkeren. Maar ook in de rest van Europa beklommen ze vol overtuiging de podia. Hun grootste sterktes? Ze zijn en blijven hun authentieke zelf en staan écht tussen hun publiek. Reken daarbij hun toegankelijke(re) doch lekker tot heupwiegen aanzettende cold- en darkwave, en het plaatje is compleet.

Hun tweede longplayer Sexy is zoals de naam zelf zegt. Een opvolger die zich houdt aan het concept waar ze voor staan: electro, wat samples en donkere synthlijnen, gecombineerd met de snedige baslijnen van Frédéric. Zuinige gitaren die her en der opdoemen en de karakteristieke stem van Davide, toch een man met een stem die er mag zijn. Iets wat niet zo evident is bij vele groepen in het genre.

Sexy telt 12 songs. En die zijn van diverse pluimage. Van coldwave-pareltjes zoals Just Like You tot meer poppy klinkende songs zoals I Am Alone. En door het donkere randje dat er toch rond hangt blijft het onweerstaanbare wave.
Don’t Close Your Eyes drijft op een uitermate vette baslijn die meanderend een weg baant doorheen de drums. Coldwave van de bovenste plank ook met Kiss or Kill, dat geruggesteund door de speelse synths een aanstekelijke eighties-toets draagt. En wat te denken van een juweeltje als Ciel De Cendres, waar bezwerend gitaarwerk een meer prominente plaats inneemt en op die manier van de song echt een topper maakt. Mijn vinger neigt enorm naar de repeat-knop op de afstandsbediening.
Ze duiken ook diepste catacomben in op zoek naar een Vampire. Een song waar Davide zijn typerende stem naar mooie hoge tonen leidt. Ik ben gewoon fan van zijn stemgeluid. In deze song toont hij ook weer wat hij kan. Zalig!
Dat het venijn soms in de staart zit, zien we ook bij Sexy. Roberto start met psychedelische soundscapes, een zingend meisje, uit de verte klinkende violen, een hartslag, die versnelt en zich ontvouwt in een tribal-aandoende melodie, om dan als het ware van rups tot vlinder te ontpoppen in een geweldige electro-song. Geflankeerd door een oerzware basdrum en retro synths en uitermate dansbaar.

Met deze Sexy is DaGeist een band waar we onmogelijk rond kunnen. Ze bevestigen wat ze met 40 al presteerden. Wie hen op een podium bezig zag weet ook dat ze het live nog overtuigender neerzetten en dat ze geloven in elk woord en elke klank die ze produceren. Dit is een album met ballen: eerlijk en overtuigend over de ganse lijn.
