Since The Force Dimension resurfaced to play BIMFEST in 2015 and after the re-release of their debut album in the same year on the prestigious Minimal/Maximal vinyl label, there were already rumors that this Dutch Electro combo was working on new material. Today these rumors are confirmed! Machine Sex, the first real full and new album since 1990, features thirteen new tracks. And as soon as the first song ‘In Town’ kicks in it’s clear the present sound of The Force Dimension is still not that far away from their original sound. And this without feeling outdated at all. The chemistry between the vocals of founder René Van Dijck and new gitarist/vocalist Betty Correa works very well indeed. The typical sounding vocals of Betty Correa even remind me a bit of Miss Yolandi Visser from Die Antwoord and give some songs a certain ‘bitchy’ touch like Lord Of Acid and Miss Kitten tend to have. Luckily the band decided not to fall for the contemporary electro cliché ‘succes’ formulas with this comeback album but to stay true to their own typical way of composing songs. I’m sure we will soon hear the ultra danceable songs like ‘Today I’m Dead’, ‘Zombie Kids’, ‘Don’t Push’ and the reminiscent to early Front 242 ’Crushed By The Ships’ blast out of the speakers at the better parties. So the answer to the question if The Force Dimension succeeded in delivering a decent come-back album? We have to say yes!

Sinds de wederopstanding van The Force Dimension op BIMFEST in 2015, en de haast gelijktijdige reissue van hun debuutalbum op het prestigieuze vinyl label MinimalMaximal, deden er al geruchten de ronde dat dit Nederlandse Electro combo aan nieuw materiaal aan het werken was. Intussen is het zover: Machine Sex is het eerste volwaardige nieuwe album van The Force Dimension sinds 1990 en bevat meteen dertien nieuwe songs.

Het album opent sterk met ‘In Town’, een nummer dat onmiddellijk duidelijk maakt dat de huidige klank en stijl nog steeds zeer dicht aanleunen bij de oorspronkelijke sound van The Force Dimension, zonder gedateerd te klinken. Het klankspel tussen de stemmen van oudgediende en oprichter René Van Dijck en de nieuw ingelijfde zangeres/gitariste Betty Correa werkt heel goed. De inbreng van Betty Correa en haar typische stemgeluid, dat mij een beetje aan zangeres Yolandi Visser van Die Antwoord doet denken, geeft de nummers het nodige ‘bitchy’ gehalte, zoals bijvoorbeeld Lords Of Acid of Miss Kitten wel eens durven klinken.

Gelukkig heeft de band zich bij deze comeback niet laten verleiden om op de kar van de huidige boring electro trends en clichés te springen. Ze blijft steevast nummers met een eigen typisch karakter schrijven. De uiterst dansbare ’Today I’m Dead’, ’Zombie Kids’, Don’t Push’ en het vroege Front 242 aandoende ‘Crushed By The Ships’ zullen we zeker nog op de betere electrofuiven door de luidsprekers horen schallen. Op de vraag of The Force Dimension erin geslaagd is met deze Machine Sex een geslaagd come-back album te brengen, is het antwoord volmondig ja!
