Reporecords welcomes a new member to the family: Darkness On Demands' EP Psychoburbia. An EBM project founded by former Dance Or Die and Agonoize band members. The EP contains three songs and two remixes of notorious names from the electronic music field Agonoize and Dance Or Die (hey, what did you expect?!) and Eisfabrik who put their hands on Forever.

The title track is an inviting dance / EBM song with a nice deep bass line, dark enough drum sound and very catchy melody. Never Too Late is a somewhat calmer gem that tends to lend to softer synth-pop. And can they have fun? Plenty! Quicksand is more like future-pop of the better kind. More up-tempo, happy but pounding at the same time.

Then the remixes... Eisfabrik with their frozen looks sound like their band-name: the dark beats beat around the ears with a subdued and blissful singing voice that runs through the song like a strangling snake around her prey.

Agonoize in turn forces Back To Psychoburbia through the meat grinder. Mayhem all the way with the typical hard edge beats and short-cut synths. But the song still remains recognizable, partly because of the voice that is not contaminated by noise and distortion but on the contrary it is still very original and understandable. Dance Or Die stays closer to the original, but adds, to my feeling, a more dark synth melody to it.

A nice EP from the band that will perform at one of the WGT side-events at the Non Tox... Those who are going this year: give it a try!

Reporecords verwelkomt een nieuwe telg in de familie: Darkness On Demands’s Psychoburbia. Een EBM-project gedragen door o.a. voormalige Dance Or Die- en Aganoize bandleden. De EP bevat drie nummers en drie remixes van notoire namen uit het electronische muziekveld, en niet de minsten: Agonoize en Dance Or Die zelve. En Eisfabrik is de derde klepper en bewerkte het nummer Forever.

De titelsong is een EBM-song die tot danspasjes uitnodigt, met een mooie diepe baslijn, een nog voldoende in de donkerte geplooide drumsound en een heel aanstekelijke melodie. Never Too Late is een wat rustiger kleinood dat eerder neigt naar zachte synthpop. Of ze zich amuseren? Volop! Quicksand is futurepop van de betere soort. Meer uptempo, vrolijk en stompend terzelfdertijd.

En de remixes… Eisfabrik met de bevroren looks klinkt zoals de naam: diep donker slaan de beats rond de oren met een ingetogen en zalige zangstem die zich doorheen de song draait als een wurgslang rond haar prooi.
Agonoize haalt Back To Psychoburbia door de vleesmolen. Mayhem all the way met de voor hen karakteristieke snoeiharde beats en kort afgekapte synths. Maar de song blijft herkenbaar, ook door het stemgeluid dat niet door noise en distortie is besmet, maar integendeel heel origineel en verstaanbaar is. Dance Or Die blijft dichter bij het origineel, maar voegt er een wat meer donkere synthmelodie aan toe naar mijn gevoel.

Een leuke EP van de band die in de rand van het WGT gebeuren ten dans zal spelen in de Non Tox… Zij die daar zijn: give it a try!
