Minny Pops is a Dutch new wave/electro band. In 1979, the debut album Drastic Measures, Drastic Movement was released, followed by support acts for XTC (Amsterdam) and Joy Division (Eindhoven), concerts in England, a record deal with Factory Records (1980) and an invitation for the John Peel Sessions. In 1985 the band released its fourth and final original album 4th Floor. Musically Minny Pops is influenced by bands like Cabaret Voltaire and the American duo Suicide, but also by Brian Eno and the German formation Cluster.

This CD is released by Factory Benelux. Disc 1 contains the complete debut album Drastic Measures, Drastic Movement and nine bonus tracks, including the material of the debut EP Kojak (3 tracks), a remix of Dolphins Spurt (2003) by Zip and DJ Smacker, and 12 minutes of video footage (5 tracks), recorded at the Amsterdam Film Academy in 1979. Disc 2 contains the complete live performance of their debut album, recorded at Dansmaker in Amsterdam on March 11, 2012.

The compositions of Minny Pops have lost none of their experimental nature and they hardly are dated. These songs are sound collages (Minny Pops and MD Mania come closest to real songs). The minimalist structure, the bizarre-sounding guitars and the reciting voice of Wally van Middeldorp, it all sounds like organized chaos, mechanical, dark, repetitive and industrial, yet original and authentic. The sound is rougher and noisier during the live concert (disc 2), but it is structured and done with vision.

Minny Pops is een Nederlandse new wave/electro band.
