The Light Dreams is the instrumental synthesizer project of UK-based composer Alex Storer—a sonic alchemist who conjures radiant soundscapes that gleam like light caught in a dream. Each composition unfolds like a chapter in an epic voyage, a quest through uncharted realms of emotion and imagination.

Born from a passion for science fiction, travel, and dreams, it channels the spirit of pioneering electronic artists like Jean-Michel Jarre, Gary Numan, Tangerine Dream, Depeche Mode, and David Bowie.

With lush cascades of glowing synth layers, intricate melodies that twist and turn like secret pathways, and vast cinematic atmospheres that swell and breathe, Storer’s music transcends mere sound. It invites you to lose yourself in a world where time slows, horizons expand, and the ordinary fades away—leaving only wonder, reflection, and the thrill of discovery.

Málverk, the new album, invites listeners on a sonic journey inspired by the stark, otherworldly beauty of Iceland and the boundless mysteries of space and science fiction art. The album’s title—‘Málverk’—is Icelandic for “painting” or “artwork” (mála meaning “to paint” and verk meaning “work”), perfectly capturing its intention: to craft vivid auditory paintings that evoke landscapes both terrestrial and celestial.

One track, ‘Áttaviti’, carries a similarly poetic Icelandic title translating to “eight-wit,” a reference to the eight cardinal points of a compass—apt for an album rooted in travel and exploration, guiding the listener through sonic terrains as varied and shifting as the compass points themselves.

The album closes with ‘Stellaris’, a deeply personal piece originally composed in 2016 as a gift for British space artist David A. Hardy, whose work has inspired generations of science fiction fans and artists alike. Though unreleased until now, this updated version perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Málverk—a radiant, starbound farewell that ties the album’s themes of exploration, wonder, and artistry together.
