Die Nerven from Esslingen (near Stuttgart) makes German gloomy post-punk that conveys some nihilism. Out is their third album.

The opener Die Unschuld in Person begins as a classic post-punk track with a bass that evolves into noise rock. Short, but with enough power!

Barfub durch die Scherben is a mixture of modern post-punk and some Britpop. Dreck also deserves the listener’s attention: a fine groove and riff, complemented with the rage and madness of Pixies. It's a fact that in almost every song there is some space to let the guitars flow (a perfect example is the middle part of iPhone). Along with the haunting vocals of Julian Knoth, that’s a perfect combination! Den Tag Vergessen floats on a rippling bass and some fine guitars and you feel that a climax arises. Hast Du Was Gezagt is a perfect track to end an album: sharp guitar playing, great drums and a quite pertinent text.

A lot of post-punk releases are in fact nothing more than bland copies of Joy Division, New Order or The Cure. Die Nerven is different: this is a band with an unique sound that has something to tell. A very good album!

Die Nerven uit Esselingen (nabij Stuttgart) maken Duitstalige sombere postpunk die wat nihilisme uitstraalt. Out is ondertussen hun derde album.

Opener Die unschuld in Person begint als een klassiek klinkend postpunknummer, met een manifest aanwezige bas die naar noiserock evolueert. Kort en krachtig.

De gepijnigde zang in Barfub durch die Scherben wordt begeleid door moderne postpunk die vermengd is met wat Britpop. Dreck is ook een nummer dat de aandacht verdient: een fijne groove en riff, met de woede en de gekte van Pixies. Het is leuk dat ze in bijna ieder nummer ruimte laten om de gitaren wat te laten uitwaaien (zoals ze dat bijv. in het midden van Iphone doen). Het staat leuk tegenover de beklemmende zang van Julian Knoth. Den Tag Vergessen drijft op een kabbelende bas en fijn gitaarspel en bouwt mooi op naar een climax. Hast Du Was Gezagt is een goede afsluiter: scherp gitaarspel, leuke drums en een vrij pertinente tekst.

Heel wat postpunkreleases zijn niet meer dan doorslagjes van pakweg Joy Division, New Order of The Cure. Bij Die Nerven is dat niet het geval: dit is een band met een eigen geluid, die bovendien ook iets te vertellen heeft. Een heel goed album!
