MISS CHAMBERTALE

Dark cabaret represents the intellectual side of Goth subculture. It is pervaded by an ambiguous theatricality made of roughness, black humor, and sarcasm. Miss Chambertale come from Minsk, Belarus, and properly cultivate that kind of atmospheres, however adding an extra-amount of formal elegance.

They look like a chamber ensemble, based on piano, cello, guitar, bass, percussions, and a talented female vocalist. She is a sensuous chanteuse, a bewitching presence. Berries and Tale is their first full-length album and, unfortunately, the lack of further information in English limits the full knowledge about the band.

Each piece appears as a fragment of the same narrative, framed by a well-defined style and therefore a coherent whole, bridging the fields of jazz and classical music. So, there are prevailing soft tones but also significant increases in rhythm and pathos.

It's about songs situated in the middle between dreams and nightmares, harmonies and melodies evoking something mysterious or a loss.

Miss Chambertale build up a plot sometimes bitter and otherwise sweeter, but always sinister, like the giant shadow of a chandelier in a light cone, alternating uneasy and languorous moments (“Secret in the Wall”, “Next Embrace”) entwined and then melted into a perfect interplay of piano and cello, like an imaginary soundtrack for an old black and white movie.
