Human Flesh (Belgium) is (kind of) back once again, with the CD-reissue of “THE 35th HUMAN ATTEMPT”, offering a sweltering mix of languages, voices, sounds and atmospheres against a minimalistic background. To be filed under Experimental / Avant-Garde / Cold Wave and patiently awaiting to be (re-)discovered. The earlier vinyl version of “THE 35th HUMAN ATTEMPT” was released in 1985 by Insane Music and this CD-reissue offers the full album and 11 bonus-tracks, from “hard-to-find” eighties compilation-albums. It is limited to 500 copies. My personal faves are “Comme Sur Un Mouton”, (declamation vs. sublime organ-intermezzo’s), “Five Minutes Before Death” (The best five minutes of your life? Maybe not but certainly a grand exit) and last but not least: “Nymphomaniac Child”.

The Human Flesh line-up for the occasion: Alain Neffe, Xavier S., Deborah Jaffe, Achim Marciniak, Guy de Bièvre, Mirella Brunello, Benedict G., Paula J. Jesgarz, Valérie Leroy, Daniel Malempré, Rubina, Rob Smit, Yoshie Baba, Masaki Eguti and Masami Akita, an international bunch of talented people that all contributed in one way or another. Human Flesh is just one of many Alain Neffe Projects. Other Neffe-bands to be (re-)discovered: BeNe GeSSeRiT, Pseudo Code, Subject and Messy Goes Insane (check the website of the brilliant Belgian label EE tapes, www.eetapes.be).

Het door en door Belgische Human Flesh is een groep van uitersten … Marginaal Lawaai en nerveus gefriemel wordt afgewisseld met absolute meesterwerkjes. Human Flesh serveert eens te meer experimentele COLD WAVE in een Avant-Garde jasje, complex in al zijn eenvoud, rijk in zijn beperktheid, PoëTiSCHe Ve.RWo.NDe.Ri.NG, TRiSTeSSe BeLGe en een broeierige mengelmoes van talen, stemmen, sferen en geluiden tegen een minimale achtergrond, wachtend op (her)ontdekking. Mijn persoonlijke favorieten? Dit keer “Comme Sur Un Mouton” (declamatie vs. briljante orgelintermezzo’s), “Five Minutes Before Death”, drijvend op het sublieme saxofoonspel van Mister Neffe himself en tot slot “Nymphomaniac Child”.

“THE 35th HUMAN ATTEMPT” verscheen eerder in vinylversie (1985, Insane Music) en de 11 bonustracks, songs geplukt van “hard-to-find” compilatiealbums uit de onvolprezen jaren tachtig, zijn uiteraard een mooie aanvulling op een sowieso al schitterende CD. “the 35th Human Attempt” is naar goede gewoonte een gelimiteerd verhaal (500 exemplaren).

Human Flesh - voor de gelegenheid Xavier S., Deborah Jaffe, Guy de Bièvre, Mirella Brunello, Benedict G., Paula J. Jesgarz, Valérie Leroy, Daniel Malempré, Rubina, Rob Smit en Yoshie Baba - is slechts één van de vele Alain Neffe Projecten.
