Drowning World is the firstborn from Ien Oblique (‘En-O-‘blEk), a relatively new band in electroland. After several appearences on a range of samplers, the time was ready for a first full album.
A true wave of synthpop / futurepop is flowing through my ears once the prelude has passed and “A moment with you” comes into play. And from that moment, the wave just keep stalking you along through the whole album with pearls like “The dawn” and titletrack “Drowning world”.
Simple sounding though layered tracks with nice lyrics: or how easy good music can sound. The exorcising vocals give all the tracks a kind of soothing extra, although some lyrics often contain a kind of held back anger, a pain brought with a certain tristesse. You can play this as a warm up for a party, at the afterpartycocktail and yes, also on the dancefloor itself, some tracks may even get the crowd moving.
For a first full-album, this one can count. Let’s hope the future may bring more!
