Despite the name, this is a British group. In recent years, this post-rock formation performed live shows with arty short films that accompanied their music. They have already obtained some prizes with these films. They also like to look for special places for their concerts, such as churches or old theaters.

Recently KScope (a label that is known for progressive groups such as Anathema, No Man, Porcupine Tree...) gave them a record deal. On their first full album they follow the style of their previous EP's: atmospheric soundscapes layed in solid songstructures. Musically it sticks together and the songs are filled with all kinds of instruments (like some synths). Just listen to Drum Fire. The drums are nice, woodwinds sometimes replace the vocals or a thundering piano sound joins in.. 

After the intro with the recorded voice of William S Burroughs, Neotenie starts as a pretty danceable song. Between two Worlds is built up slowly. The song starts with piano and fragile vocals by Freyja. Then the song progressively takes more tempo and other instruments are added.

On Violent Lights, Alex Hedley sings the vocals. So we get eight balanced and carefully constructed songs. For the associated clips, they worked together with peole like David Lynch. Beautiful music that has much to offer.

Ondanks de groepsnaam gaat het hier om een Britse groep. De laatste jaren bracht deze post-rockformatie vooral live shows waarbij arty kortfilms werden projecteerden en die ze met hun muziek begeleidden en waarmee ze reeds enkele prijzen behaalden. Ze zoeken ook graag speciale plaatsen voor hun concerten op, zoals kerken of oude theaters.

Onlangs sloot KScope (een label dat werk uitbrengt van progressieve groepen zoals Anathema, No MAN, Porcupine Tree…) een platendea met hen af. Op hun eerste full album wijken ze niet af van hun eerdere ep’s waarop ze atmosferische soundscapes in songs verpakken. Muzikaal steekt het allemaal goed in elkaar en zijn de nummers rijkelijk voorzien van allerhande instrumentarium (al dan niet met synths). Luister maar eens naar Drumfire. Drums doen hier mooi werk, blazers vervangen de stem en een klaterende piano trekt alles nadien weer op gang. Het nummer heeft iets feestelijks.

Neotenie is na de intro met de stem van William S Burroughs, een vrij dansbaar nummer. Between two worlds heeft een langzame opbouw: de song begint met piano en de fragiele stem door Freyja. Het nummer krijgt gaandeweg wat meer tempo en begeleiding van andere instrumenten.

Op Violent lights neemt Alex Hedley de zangstem voor zijn rekening. Zo krijgen we acht evenwichtige en zorgvuldige opgebouwde nummers. Voor de bijhorende clips werkten ze onder andere samen met David Lynch. Mooie luistermuziek die veel te bieden heeft.
