From Canada comes the debut of this hard rock/metal band to soften our manners. In terms of lung capacity, the singer can be compared with Doro or Lita Ford, and in some tracks even with singers like Simone Simons (Epica) or Annette Olzon (Nightwish)... A strong rock voice with an occasional growl in between. A nice debut that conveys a professional approach at all levels: production, site, video...

Opener The End is a straightforward song. A kind of battle. Ideally to heat up the masses. Save Me already was a single. Singer Kami Vanhalst proves that she can handle something softer too, more emotional colored vocals. In Ryan's Song is a sensitive ballad. World of Make Believe is again more of a rock track. Real rock/metal songs (Monster), interspersed with rather sensitive material like the beautiful Denying Eyes, a track that breaks loose at the right moment. The lyrics contain black metal influences and are about prejudice and the judgmental society. Live, the band exudes a gothic metal atmosphere, because of the clothes and the theatricality...

World of Make Believe is a good and decent debut. It is not innovative, but good. The band stands out from the rest by making a mixture of hard rock and gothic metal. Kami has a voice that I absolutely want to hear live, because I suspect that she sounds on stage as good as on record.

Uit Canada bereikt ons het debuut van deze hardrock/metalband om onze zeden te verzachten. De zangeres kan je qua longinhoud met Doro of Lita Ford vergelijken en in sommige tracks ook met zangeressen zoals Simone Simons (Epica) of Annette Olzon (Nightwish)... Een sterke rockstem dus met nu en dan een growl tussendoor. Een aangenaam debuut dat op alle niveaus een professionele aanpak uitstraalt: productie, site, video…

Opener The End is een rechttoe rechtaan song. Een soort van strijdlied. Ideaal om de massa op te warmen. Save Me was al uit als single. Hier wordt de track geleidelijk opgebouwd: van een intro met een sample, tot een gitaarlick die de song op gang trekt. Zangeres Kami Vanhalst laat horen dat ze ook iets zachtere, emotioneler gekleurde zang aankan. Op Ryan’s Song gaat ze in een lagere versnelling en horen we een gevoelige ballade. World of Make Believe is dan weer meer een rockende track. Een heel aantrekkelijke song die live beslist gensters slaat. Echte rock/metalsongs dus ( o.a. Monster), afgewisseld met eerder gevoelig materiaal zoals het wondermooie Denying Eyes, een track die op het goede moment losbreekt en weer stilvalt. De teksten bevatten blackmetalinvloeden en gaan over vooroordelen en een veroordelende maatschappij. Live straalt de band een gothicmetalsfeer uit o.a. vanwege de kleding en de theatraliteit…

World of Make Believe is een goed en degelijk debuut. Vernieuwend is het niet, maar het wordt goed gebracht. De band onderscheidt zich van de rest door op een kruising tussen hardrock en gothic metal te mikken. Kami heeft een stem die ik absoluut eens live wil horen, want ik vermoed dat die minstens even ferm klinkt als op de plaat.
