Hailing from Southern Maryland (USA), White Shadow brings us industrial metal that we know so well. It appears that the industrial rock and metal scene is steadily growing (again) in the US or is it just coincidence that we receive more industrial rock music lately? Actually, we don’t care. We just love it. “Panopticon” is inspired by the work of the English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham (late 16th century).

White Shadow knows how to integrate the different industrial rock influences into its own, very recognizable style. Don’t expect any new found territories, but music that will be loved by any industrial rock fan. The only problem is that the voice of DXNero isn’t always strong enough. In songs like ‘Zugzwang’ and ‘I Don’t Know What I Am’, he sings out of tune. His singing fits much better when the music is hard, direct and powerful. It has to be said that “Panopticon” has a lot of these moments and that musically there is nothing wrong with the songs. Nice devised breaks, powerful guitar riffs and enough variation. Proof can be found in ‘Slipgate‘, ‘The Fix Is In’, ‘10.000 masks’, (the Rob Zombie-like) ‘Panopticon’, ‘Addicted To Despair’ and ‘Temple‘. In the end “Panopticon” could have been better (especially in the voice department), but it is definitely not the worse industrial metal album. Actually, the music, the song writing and the production make it worth the effort for any industrial metal fan.
