Absent Music is a private project of Jan Van den Broeke, living in Ghent (Belgium) and his “Absent EP” offers refined material of the glorious and elegant eighties. The 2 songs on the A-side already appeared on the “Absent Music for Absent People”-K7 (1986) and “Walking Back To Happiness” also appeared on “Mad in Belgium vol. 2” (1985), part two of a brilliant series of compilation cassettes, featuring fantastic bands like Aroma di Amore, Dole, Vita Noctis, Siglo XX, Twilight Ritual and BeNe GeSSeRiT. The songs on the B-side were never released before and are awaiting your appreciation impatiently. “The Absent EP” is limited to 250 copies and the first 85 copies are hand numbered + you get two extra photographs.

Absent Music offers metropolitan minimal wave, minimal synth and other synth-pop tunes with an Avant-Garde feel to them. 33 rounds per minute of sheer rejoicement. 5 songs of a not that distant past, lovingly remixed and re-mastered for your pleasure and amusement only. I’ll be so kind as to introduce them to you briefly … “Akahito” features guitars of distinction in perfect harmony with bass, timid beats and sweet vocals and "Walking Back To Happiness” is Laurie Anderson Deluxe, soul treatment par excellence … If you particularly like this song, buy Laurie Andersons 1982 classic “Big Science”, you won’t be disappointed. “The Monkey House” maybe the best song on this EP. A short and hesitant scream for your attention, oh so beautiful! “Circles” is a confused little song about personal development and inner struggles and the “Absent EP” ends in style and with a dream: “Le Rêve de C.J.”. A dream about Wim Mertens? Who will tell?

I’ll be honest, the vinyl collection of EE Tapes means a lot to me … It’s a “little” collection that adds extra spice, flavor and color to (my) life … as all GREAT art should. EV01 - EV06 ... six slices of uncut happiness, displaying the delicate and uncompromising talent of the involved artists … Absolutely wonderful!

Absent Music is/was het private project van Gentenaar Jan Van den Broeke en op deze “Absent EP” staan verfijnde waren uit de elegante jaren 80 en ander lekker westers. De 2 songs op het A-kantje waren reeds te bewonderen op de cassette “Absent Music for Absent People” (1986) en “Walking Back To Happiness” stond ook op “Mad in Belgium vol. 2” (1985), deel 2 dus van een fantastische reeks compilatiecassettes waarvoor tal van schitterende groepen tracks leverden. Aroma di Amore, Dole, Vita Noctis, Siglo XX, Twilight Ritual en BeNe GeSSeRiT, om er maar enkele te noemen. De nummers op de B-kant zagen nooit eerder het geperste daglicht. Ze dateren ook van de gezegende eighties en u kan ze nu eindelijk “bezitten” en naar waarde schatten, althans 250 smaakvolle gelukkigen onder u … De eerste 85 exemplaren van de “Absent EP” zijn bovendien met de hand genummerd en u krijgt er 2 extra foto’s bij!

Absent Music serveert “grootstedelijke” minimal wave, minimal synth of synth-pop zo u wilt. 33 hemelse toeren per minuut aan onvervalste verblijding. 5 mooie songs uit een niet zo ver verleden, liefdevol opgefrist en voorzien van extra glans en dat allemaal voor UW vermaak. Ik stel ze even aan u voor … “Akahito” voorziet in schitterende, ijle gitaartjes, in contemplatief gesprek met een schuchtere bas en subtiel ondersteund door drum en schaarszoete stemmen. “Walking Back To Happiness” neigt sterk naar Laurie Anderson, valium deluxe voor muzikale zielen, iets van die strekking ... U houdt wel van dit soort songs? Dan is de Anderson klassieker “Big Science” uit 1982 een absolute aanrader! “The Monkey House” is misschien wel de beste song op deze EP? Voorbij in een zucht, voorzichtig om aandacht schreeuwend. Het volgende nummer, “Circles”, is een luchtig tussendoortje over innerlijke verwarring en eindigen doen we met een droom en in stijl: “Le Rêve de C.J.”. Een droom over Wim Mertens? Wie zal het zeggen?

De vinyl collectie van EE Tapes ligt me nauw aan het hart, dat heeft u waarschijnlijk al begrepen … Een “kleine” collectie voor fijnproevers, die mijn/het leven nog wat extra kleur en smaak geeft. Zes schijfjes onversneden klasse, minimaal groots in al hun eenvoud. Merci Eriek!
