CHRYSALIDE

The French industrial act Chrysalide sounds like a more accessible Skinny Puppy. The music contains more EBM influences and the song writing is more like the normal standard instead of the chaotic charm of Skinny Puppy themselves. The song ‘Tomorrow Is Too Late’ for instance sounds more like Funker Vogt. “Personal Revolution” however got some great moments, especially when Chrysalide mixes heavy music with danceable beats like on ‘We Are Not Cursed’, the short but effective ‘Vote For Molotov’. The Nine Inch Nails meets Skinny Puppy on ‘Keep Calm’, the wilful ‘Substance Over Style’ and the title track which is the best song on this album. Not the most original band in the world, but if you copy some elements from other bands, you have to do it with style and that’s exactly what Chrysalide has done.
