Halfway through the 80s, the Montreal band Of Tanz Victims scored a modest hit in our region with the EP Fighting False God. On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of that album, Arttofact Records released a remastered version of this Canadian classic. And of course, at the other side of the Atlantic they hope that this production will do well again with old lovers of the band and curious newcomers.

Or Tanz Victims was formed in St.-Jean-sur-Richelieu in downtown Montreal in 1980, while the so-called second wave of the industrial music was spreading rapidly on the other side of this vast land, in Vancouver. All eyes were focused on the Canadian west coast, but Of Tanz Victims manifested itself in the east with challenging and intriguing releases on vinyl and cassette, meanwhile giving a new meaning to industrial music in Canada. Because of the obscene cover of their first 12", their material was boycotted in America, but the band was successful in Europe, especially in Belgium.

The three tracks on the EP are quite different in tone and content, and they sound like the soundtrack for a violent action during an apocalyptic military confrontation. Filth or God begins with fast percussion, dark choir-like chants in the background, rumbling drums and synth noise, complemented with repetitive voices, cries and synths that sound like artillery fire and loud bangs as of guns. The barely 2 minute long The Silent End is a hectic track with fast percussion, a Joy Division-like melody with deep and monotonous vocals, pounding drums on top and shimmering metallic guitar synths, hectic and feverish. Tape Machine K is a collage of voice loops, rumbling drums and abrasive noise, staccato and searing, with percussion that sounds like artillery fire again, delirious voices and coded language in between, guns and hitting bombs, rough and brutal as industrial is seldom made nowadays, challenging with a high level of visual content.

Recommended for fans of the first and second generation and for whom it may sound somewhat bolder and more mechanical.

Track listing:
1. Filth of God
2. The Silent End
3. Tape Machine K
