Stylish, with a rich atmosphere, slowly and with well-constructed songs, these are the key words for the sixth release of Wolverine. This progressive metal band has been around since 1995 and they started as a melodic death metal band. Afterwards, the band made more progressive metal and rock music. For this album it has attracted Christian Moos (Volbeat, Pretty Maids, Anubis Gate etc...) for the mixing. The result is an elegant and subtle sound. Opener The Bedlam Overture lasts nearly a quarter of an hour and shows the abilities of the band: very atmospheric music with a special moment for each instrument.It's a beautiful track that guarantees the quality of the rest of the album.

Pledge shows that this band can rock. Subtlety and mastery take the lead and the mix ensures that we hear a nice smooth sound, despite the many variation in the album. The bonus tgrack is called Pile of Ash. It has a different atmosphere because of the mix of cello and vocals. Great, with tasteful artwork!

Machina Viva is progressive metal/rock of high quality that will undoubtedly get a lot of good reviews. It is a logical continuation of the previous album Communication Lost. For lovers of bands like Anathema, Thurisaz, The Flower Kings...

Stijlvol, sfeerrijk, langzaam en goed opgebouwde songs zijn zowat de kernwoorden die te binnen schieten bij de zesde release van Wolverine. Deze progressieve metalband is al bezig sinds 1995 en startte indertijd als een melodische deathmetalband. Daar is al lang geen sprake meer van. Voor dit album hebben ze Christian Moos (Volbeat, Pretty Maids, Anubis Gate etc…) aangetrokken voor de mixing. Het resultaat is er dan ook naar: een piekfijn en subtiel geluid. Opener is The Bedlam Ouverture, waarin de band gedurende bijna een kwartier zijn kunnen toont: heel atmosferisch en voor elk instrument zit er wel een bijzonder momentje in. Prachtige track die garant staat voor de rest van het album.

Veel sfeerrijke tracks, maar in Pledge toont Wolverine dat het ook kan rocken. Toch blijven subtiliteit en meesterschap de overhand houden en de mix zorgt ervoor dat we een mooi egaal geluid horen, ondanks de vele variatie in het album. Als bonustrack komt Pile of Ash terug in een cellomixversie. We horen een aparte sfeer doordat men enkel gebruik maakt van strijkinstrument en vocals. Zeer geslaagd. Ook het artwork is smaakvol.

Machina Viva is progressieve metal/rock van de bovenste plank die ongetwijfeld veel goede kritiek zal krijgen. Het is een logisch vervolg op het vorig album Communication Lost. Voor wie houdt van Anathema, Thurisaz, The Flower Kings…
