A little bit strange, but nice, that’s how you can describe the experimental industrial noise of Colossloth in a nutshell. The sound is characterized by quirky bursts, piano sounds and violent eruptions. Sometimes, you have no idea what they’re doing, but the music intrigues and that is mainly due to moments of recognition or the feeling that Colossloth’s music offers some stability. Those moments ensure you that you’re not getting lost in the big black nothing. The music is often threatening, imploring, but it also contains a strange attraction that is hard to put into words.

Opener The Flavor Of The Week creates the idea that Colossloth makes dark ambient, but slowly the experimental industrial takes over. Thereafter you hear strange noises, distortion and unusual rhythms. The music is just as surprising as the title of the album is. And yet, it fascinates...

Onder het kopje, ‘een beetje vreemd, maar wel lekker’, creëert Colossloth experimentele industrial noise met eigenzinnige uitbarstingen, pianogeluiden en heftige erupties. Er is soms geen touw aan vast te knopen, maar de muziek blijft intrigeren. Dat laatste is vooral te danken aan momenten van herkenning of het gevoel dat er enige vastigheid in de muziek geboden wordt. Die momenten grijp je vast om niet weggezogen te worden in het grote zwarte niets. De muziek is vaak dreigend, bezwerend, maar ook berustend en met een vreemde aantrekkelijkheid die moeilijk in woorden te vatten is.

In de opener The Flavor Of The Week ontstaat nog even het idee dat Colossloth de darkambient-kant vertegenwoordigt, maar langzaam aan neemt de experimentele industrial het over. Daarna blijven vreemde geluiden, distortion en tegendraadse, niet te plaatsen ritmes overheersen. De muziek is net zo bevreemdend als de titel van de plaat. En toch, het blijft boeien…
