IGORRR

After Whourkr's experiments with breakcore and death metal there's more mayhem on the way with Igorrr's newest album. Hallelujah, the name speaks for itself, this is breakcore with divine intervention. A new Pope but still the Church dwells in the same mirky waters.

Breakcore I say? There's a lot more going on! A very impressive start with classical piano notes and the wonderful opera voice of Laure Le Prunenec, it descents quickly into a blizzard of breaks and beats, with Laure pushing her vocal boundaries through all frontiers. Very baroque indeed!

"Damaged Wig" is a wonderful maelstrom of death metal and hilarious samples of whistling birds. More weird stuff in all the other songs, I can hear vacuum cleaners, chickens, flamenco, Russian folklore, accordeons and all these are well chosen. After a few listens it really grows on you, Gautier Serre veers away from overloading the album with too much sampling wizardry. And as such, "Corpus Tristis" is a great moment of peace and reflective sadness in the mainly hyperkinetic overall sound.

Last song "Infinite Loop" can put you on the wrong track, no ambient stillness here, but another wonderful combination of death metal guitars, classical opera and breakcore. A wonderful album with equally wonderful artwork by Mioshe! Nothing Hieronymus Bosch didn't already do but it fits the cynical view on religion perfectly.
