This American singer-songwriter used to be the singer of Feeding People, and more recently she worked with The Death Valleys, but now she has her own solo debut out that combines folk, pop, garage and indie. Sometimes all in one song!

The album sounds a bit like the butterflies on the cover: colorful, dreamy or simply erratic (just like their flight). It's mainly arranged with an organ, a violin and some wind instruments. It all is a personal little world for herself and the listener.

On several songs she sings playful and quite naive: Sugar Coated, Butterfly Knives or Make It or Spin. On La Loba she sounds like a gypsy. Mental Illness is quite different and seems like a song that has escaped from an old smoky nightclub. Make It Spin and Sugar Coated stand out for me: catchy and well sung. With great lyrics and well-crafted songs, Jessie Jones delivers a fine debut.

Soms allemaal in één nummer!
