DOUBLE ECHO

La Danza is gothic scousers Double Echo’s 8-track LP.

All three band members share singing duties, which gives plenty of stylistic variance to the album. Female Ellon’s songs switch between more minimal sounds, like the title track, to more flowery stuff like Waiting Game which is a beautifully sad song.

Moving on to the lads, Chris has vocal duties on one song, which reminds me of Sisters era gothic rock and is probably my favorite. It’s perfect for goth shape throwing on the dance floor. Ash’s vocal contributions were slower cold wave tracks. Synths are quite 80s in a good way and work well with bass and guitars. I wasn’t sure about the drum machine in the slower tracks.

The CD has 11 tracks, with three taken from an earlier release, and costs less than the LP. It’s a bit of a bummer for vinyl fans, but the LP is a solid enough release for the genre.
