NUCLEUS TORN

The main man behind Nucleus Torn is the Swiss multi-instrumentalist Fredy Schnyder. Other musicians are Alain Ackermann (drums) and the female voice of Eluveitie, Anna Murphy. Although musically Nucleus Torn sounds impressive innovative the voice of Anna can’t cope with all the different mood swings. Especially on the musically masterpiece Worms Anna’s voice sounds to thin and powerless. It’s a shame and an annoying fact.

Instead of enjoying all the inventive breaks, the mixture of jazz, progressive rock, metal guitar riffs and classical music the listener constantly get distracted by a singer who’s constantly stretching her vocal cords. Even on quiet songs like - (yes, that’s a song title) and The Promise Of Night it’s Anna who proves not to be up to the challenge. Musically it sounds very interesting. Listen for instance to the first song with the use of piano. This song is, like the other two songs on this record, well written and proves the great quality of Fredy. Unfortunately he made one mistake. He should have found a singer who fitted better to his music.
