Recordlabels are like some happy family. Claptrap or reality?

Well, lots depends on what label we’re talking about but in the case of Str8Line Records it seems like a fairytale that has been ongoing for something like a decade. Even if labelboss Paul Fiction has recently moved to Brussels, it still seems like a club of French bands and among them you find lots of cultbands, for example: Babel 17, Charles De Goal, Guerre Froide, Hide & Seek, Jacquy Bitch, Opera Multi Steel and Little Nemo.

The nice thing about this Movement-series is that all participating bands (there are 26 in total) have coverd a track by one of their collegues and sometimes you get pretty bizarre (but nontheless interesting) results. For instance you have Buzz who are giving a new dimension to “Calcutta” by The Names while those Belgian post-punklegends in turn cover “1984” by Buzz.

From time to time you hear versions which are kind of unrecognisable. Norma Loy who do “Summer in bed” by Little Nemo for instance and we could go on and on.

On such varied double-cd, everyone will have their own favourites but Str8Line still understand that music has to have a healthy dose of adventure and that’s something you get here. A very nice album to both discover and take you back in time.
